Community Programs Instructor

General Description: Hourly

Position Summary: Beck Center’s Community Programs department is looking for dynamic teaching artists to lead group classes for our Arts Sampler Field Trip program. Candidates should have a background in at least one art form, such as Music, Dance, Theater, or Visual Arts. The ideal candidate is an experienced performer and/or educator with a proven track record of working effectively with children of all ages. Programs are offered both on-site and off-site, and this position is available for immediate start.

Program Summary: The Arts Sampler Field Trip session lasts about 2 hours, with students spending approximately 25 minutes in each class before rotating to the next group. This format ensures that all participants get the opportunity to experience each art form—dance, music, theater, and visual arts. It's an excellent way for students to engage in out-of-seat learning, going beyond the traditional classroom environment. Our program follows a structured format designed to provide a dynamic, hands-on experience in each artistic discipline, making learning both fun and immersive.

Dance: The dance program is designed for participants to explore various styles and genres of dance – from musical theater and ballet to hip-hop and jazz, all to enhance expand the general understanding of dance. Each class begins with a simple stretch and moves into a dance combination.

Music: Music in the Arts Sampler introduces and/or reinforces numerous musical concepts through drumming. Essential musical skills addressed include note types (eighth, quarter, etc), rhythm, timbre (sound types), ways of performing (solo, ensemble), names of drums and percussion instruments and additional music fundamentals

Theater: The theater experience may be focused on Improvisational Theater which includes the use of theater warm-ups, the fundamentals of improv, use games needed to create an ensemble, and working together or it will focus on theater experiences such role playing, theater terminology, and creating a character along with a tour of our backstage areas.

Visual Arts: Visual arts offer the most flexibility, allowing the instructor to focus on painting, cartooning, collage, or various mixed media techniques. Our goal is to help students develop new skills, explore different art forms, and complete a creative project within a short timeframe.

Qualifications:

We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals with experience working with children of all ages. The ideal candidate should be a clear and articulate communicator, customer service-oriented, and able to effectively engage with both students and colleagues. Strong organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to lead classes with educational content that is developmentally and age-appropriate. Flexibility in scheduling and a willingness to learn and teach various art forms are also required. Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.

Pay Rate:

$25/hr

TEACHING ARTIST – VOICE Part-time, hourly, non-exempt

Position Summary: Beck Center’s Music Education program seeks dynamic teaching artists to instruct students in private music lessons. The ideal candidate is an experienced performer and educator with a proven ability to work with children as well as adults. Classes and lessons are offered on-site at Beck Center. We are currently hiring instructors in voice with a focus in musical theater performance.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for maintaining an active and growing studio by instructing students in weekly private lessons and preparing students for Student Performances. Instructors are expected to teach consistently during the academic year with an optional summer semester. Beck Center’s academic calendar includes: Fall (Sept-Dec), Winter/Spring (Jan-May), and Summer (June-Aug). Instructors provide a high standard of music instruction that meets student needs, tracking their short-term and long-term goals toward sustained growth. Instructors communicate with students, parents, and staff to facilitate lessons and foster student retention. Instructors are responsible for recording attendance and enrollment accurately and promptly in the faculty time and attendance system.

Qualifications:

We seek individuals having achieved or working toward a Bachelor’s in music performance or education. The individual should have some prior experience teaching privately or in another setting where they have gained classroom management skills. Must be an articulate customer service-oriented individual who communicates well with students, families, and colleagues. The candidate should have excellent organizational skills, and be prepared to lead weekly classes/lessons with developmentally and age-appropriate content. Hiring is contingent upon passing a background check.

Pay Rate:

$28-35/hr

Creative Arts Therapies Department: Music Therapist

Part Time Hourly (10-15 hours weekly with growth potential)

Position Summary:  Functioning as a member of the Creative Arts Therapies team, music therapists (MT) serve individuals of all ages with and without various disabilities. Assignments include placement in agencies throughout Northeast Ohio region as well as group music therapy sessions, group music programming, and/or adapted programming at Beck Center for the Arts. *Current position is primarily working with early childhood music groups (infant-age 5) and K-5th.*

Responsibilities:

  • MT’s primary responsibility includes the design and implementation of early childhood music enrichment programs (infant-age 5) both in the community and at Beck Center.

  • MT will also be a part of various one-time community arts programs with grades K-5.

  • MT may also lead adapted and community arts programs as assigned by the Associate Director of Creative Arts Therapies.

  • Additional music therapy contracts in the community as they become available.

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor degree in Music Therapy

·         Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) through the Certification Board for Music Therapists, or Board Eligible with immediate plans to take the certification exam.

·         Reliable transportation both to Beck Center and to various contracts in the community

  • 1-2 years’ experience as a music therapist in a community based program preferred.

  • A self-motivated individual with experience and desire to move the music therapy program forward by assisting the Associate Director in increasing participation and community awareness.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook preferred.

  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines.

Facilities Technician

Part-time, hourly, non-exempt

HOURLY RATE: $12-14/hour

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician is responsible for maintenance, housekeeping, and security of all of the physical properties and grounds owned by Beck Center for the Arts. This includes performing various types of repairs and maintenance, implementing loss prevention and safety procedures, and general housekeeping.  The Facilities Technician also directly interacts with patrons, students, and families, responding to emergency situations and providing a safe and physically comfortable environment for Beck Center programs and activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Perform housekeeping of all three buildings, including maintenance of floors, carpet care, cleaning and stocking restroom facilities, removal of all garbage, and quick/efficient cleaning between theatrical productions and other duties as required.

2.     Perform various types of basic repairs and maintenance including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, plastering and roofing as directed by the Facilities Manager.

3.     Monitor temperatures in all buildings and make HVAC adjustments as directed by the Facilities Manager.

4.     Monitor the safety systems of Beck Center and enforce all safety procedures and policies

5.     Set-up and restore areas used for programs and activities, including turning on and off necessary lights, opening and locking all required doors, and setting up tables/chairs/equipment as needed.

6.     Monitor interior and exterior areas of Beck Center and report to the Facilities Manager any worn, damaged, and unsafe conditions, responding promptly and proactively to any routine needs.

7.     Maintain the grounds as needed, including snow removal, lawn mowing and landscaping.

8.     Monitor all areas of the Center for debris and unsightly conditions. Immediately take action to remedy.

9.     Maintain supply and storage areas in a neat and orderly condition.

10.  Assist visitors/patrons to the Center with a professional attitude.

11.  Maintain flexible schedule as required by activity in Beck Center, including evenings, weekends, and overtime.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee spends considerable time actively moving around the campus, including stairs, ladders, and occasionally crawl-spaces. Must be able to utilize power tools, lawn mowers, snow-blowers, phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit; talk; or hear; and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Music Instructors –Piano, Cello, Part-time, hourly, non-exempt

Position Summary: Beck Center’s Music Education program seeks dynamic teaching artists to instruct students in private music lessons. We are currently hiring instructors in the following disciplines:

·         Piano – Instruct students in private piano lessons and potential for group piano classes, per candidate experience and interest. Multiple candidates may be hired. Group classes at Beck Center work in the Faber piano method and begin with the Faber Piano Primer for children and the Accelerated Beginner for adults. Prior experience with the Faber method is not required, and teachers are welcome to bring other materials to their students as well.

·         Cello — Ability to instruct cello students from a young age through adult.

Overhire for Scene Shop:

Beck Center is always on the lookout for people who are seeking some overhire hours for our on-site Scene Shop.

We're seeking general tech including assistance with electrics, light carpentry, painting, and even strikes and changeovers. No minimum availability (a few hours here and there works!) but hours are almost always between 9AM and 5PM on weekdays. No evenings and weekends in general.

Beck Center for the Arts is more than a non-profit organization that combines professional theater with arts education. We create art experiences. We serve more than 60,000 people annually with eclectic performances to suit many tastes, education opportunities for people of all abilities, community programs, and free exhibitions. The Development Intern will work directly with Beck Center staff on projects related to;

·         Scanning documents and letters into DP

·         Database clean up

·         Preparing cards to be signed by board members to donors

·         Making New Donor packets

·         Filing

·         Preparing Toolkit packets

 

Required Qualifications:

Human Resources Intern

 Supervisor: Senior Finance Manager

 Work Schedule/Hours: 10-15 Hours per Week, flexible work schedule

Description:  Designed for creative, dedicated and innovative college undergraduate and graduate students seeking greater understanding and deeper knowledge of the management and operations of a non-profit arts center that houses both educational programming and a professional theater. The Human Resources Intern will work directly with Beck Center staff on projects related to;

·         Organize and audit HR files.

·         Analyze HR laws and evaluate record compliance.

·         Assist in the revision of HR templates, on-boarding and off-boarding staff procedures.

·         Engage in a multitude of HR processes including: payroll, job postings and background checks.

·         Convert paper HR files to paperless files in ADP Work Force Now.

·         Assist in implementing electronic Time & Attendance with ADP.

·         Assess staff engagement strategies and work with staff to determine appropriate implementation.
