Spotlight Gala 2024:

Illuminating the Future of Arts 

While last year we celebrated our past, this year’s theme, “Illuminating the Future of Arts,” looks forward to the future of what Beck Center can be as we continue creating arts experiences for generations to come. Providing an evening of fun and fellowship, as well as a celebration of the critical impact of the arts in our lives.

We are thrilled to honor The Char and Chuck Fowler Family Foundation for their profound impact on the arts and arts education in Northeast Ohio. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in fostering artistic growth and sustaining the mission of many organizations including Beck Center. The entire Fowler family has dedicated their resources and efforts to causes that drive positive change and enrich lives, and their foundation is celebrated for its commitment to enhancing educational opportunities, advancing medical research, and championing cultural and artistic initiatives.

Spotlight Gala 2023 – Celebrating Our Past, Creating Our Future

 

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Our Past, Creating Our Future,” looks back at Beck Center’s 90-year history of creating arts experiences, providing an evening of fun and fellowship, as well as a celebration of the critical impact of the arts in our lives. Beck Center is posthumously honoring Richard Kay, founder of the Lakewood Little Theatre, which later evolved into Beck Center for the Arts.

This year our honorees are Wally and Joyce Senney, lead donors to our capital campaign, and Artistic Director Scott Spence, as this will mark his 30th season at Beck Center.

"Spontaneity Alive" Exhibition Dates: December 4, 2020 – February 28, 2021

Description: Living freely in expression, this exhibition of three Ohio-based artists celebrates the beauty of natural and spontaneous scenes. Dive into the world around us with fresh eyes and new perspectives, feeling the world in its full vibrant and wild nature. Experience movement, color, light, and everyday scenes with new purpose. A celebration and reminder of arts flourishing in troubling times, Beck Center’s Spontaneity Alive exhibition infuses hope and happiness into our surrounding community.

The Jean Bulicek Galleria at Beck Center is located in our Main Building, home to our Mackey Main Stage Theater, Studio Theater, and classrooms for visual art, dance, theater, and creative arts therapies educational programs. Located in the heart of the building, this space is the main thruway for all programs, events, and interactions occurring in Beck Center’s Main Building.

Submission Criteria: This exhibit is open to all Ohio artists who may submit work in any medium for the juror’s consideration. This exhibition encourages artists to submit works that adhere to our theme.

Submission Fee: There are no submission fees for this exhibition.

Submission Form: Please complete our entry form (https://forms.gle/No3VtoFGbg2tyFFo9) and provide all required information requested.

Selection Panel: Beck Center has assembled a Gallery Review Panel to review our 2020-2021 Gallery entries. Members of the panel include Beck Center staff and faculty, board, and Ohio community visual art representatives. Panelists will not be considered as entrants in an exhibition. Criteria will be based on execution quality, space availability, Beck’s mission and vision, and relevance to the guidelines and theme of this exhibit.

Important Dates: + Submission Deadline: Sunday, September 20 + Notification of inclusion/exclusion: Notification by email by end of day Friday, September 25. + Virtual Artist’s Reception: TBD, once artists are selected If selected. + Drop Off for Accepted Art: November 23-29, 2020. Exact time to be coordinated directly with the artist during Beck’s building hours. + Pick Up of Artwork: March 2-7, 2021. Exact time to be coordinated directly with the artist during Beck’s building hours.

If a work is not able to be hung or displayed in a presentable and professional manner in our exhibition space, it may be asked to be replaced or rejected.

Agreement: Artists that are selected to exhibit will need to sign an agreement to participate in this exhibition.

This exhibit is open to all Ohio artists who may submit work in any medium for the juror’s consideration. This exhibition encourages artists to submit works that adhere to our theme: “Cultural Heritage.” There are no submission fees for this exhibition.

The Cultural Heritage Exhibit features the work of talented artists who have been inspired and shaped by their heritage. The exhibition is an important opportunity to celebrate various cultures and artists with strong ties to the Northeast Ohio community.

Beck Center's Core Values: We believe in the transforming and transcending power of the arts, the strength of collaboration, diversity as an essential component in all we do, an inclusive and safe environment, ethical and fiscal responsibility, customer service, personal attention and access, and building relationships.

Women's Board Nibbles & Scribbles, a free event for the public

Join Beck Center's Women's Board for a FREE event, great for all ages. The Women's Board welcomes current members, potential members, and all fans of Beck Center and cartooning! Are you retired and looking for something fun to do? Are you in school and want to learn more about cartooning? Everyone is welcome!

Beck Center Visual Arts Instructor Alastair Stockdale will teach a 45 minute mini-class on cartooning. To learn more about Alastair's work please visit https://www.misteral.org/teaching-artist.

There will be cheese, fruit, hummus, raw veggies, coffee, water, and wine or beer. There is no charge for this event but donations will be accepted.

Spotlight Gala 2019 – Be Inspired!

On Saturday November 2, 2019, Beck Center for the Arts will host our major fundraising gala, Spotlight, benefiting our mission to inspire, enrich, and transform lives through dynamic arts experiences. Every year, the gala draws nearly 300 people together to create an experience of celebration and partnership. We are excited to announce that Spotlight 2019 will be held in a new venue: Red Space, 2400 Superior, just north of Cleveland State University.

 

This year’s theme “Be Inspired!” highlights a part of our mission that we hold dear. We cherish the ability of the arts to provoke thoughts and feelings through experience and observation. Dance Education at Beck Center exemplifies this function, as it has had an immense impact on our community. This year our honorees are Lynda Sackett, founder of the dance program and outreach, teacher for over 50 years; Melanie Szucs, Associate Director of Dance, faculty member for over 35 years; and Betty Kemper, advocate and champion of our dance program. In show of our appreciation of our honorees, our guests at Spotlight will experience a night full of dance performances created and performed by our students.
