Director of Grants and Sponsorships

REPORTS TO:  VP of Institutional Advancement

Full-Time, salaried, exempt

The Director of Grants and Sponsorships plays a critical role in Beck Center’s culture of philanthropy working closely with the VP of Institutional Advancement, the institutional advancement team, and the management team to build relationships with current donors, potential donors, and generate contributed revenue from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government. The Director of Grants and Sponsorships is responsible for achieving specific revenue goals associated with foundations, businesses, and government agencies, assisting in fundraising activities and foundation donor relations including identification, cultivation, and solicitation. The Director of Grants and Sponsorships will assist the VP of Institutional Advancement in managing the operations of the grants and sponsorships relationships to ensure long-term sustainability of the institution.

 ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: We create arts experiences for all ages and abilities as individual as the people we serve.

 ESSENTIONAL FUNCTIONS:

1.    Cultivate current prospects and write new foundation grant and business sponsorship proposals; keeping track of foundation and business requests.

2.    Work with fundraising Institutional Advancement Associate (IAA) to regularly research and coordinate new foundation grants and business sponsorship prospects.

3.    Manage government grants processes, letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports.

4.    Work with VP of Institutional Advancement and Director of Individual Giving to identify potential donors and major gift donors through donor advised funds, etc.

5.    Draft, edit, and submit high-quality proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and grant reports for corporate, foundation, and government donors.

6.    Maintain a master grants calendar to ensure all proposals, reports, and renewals are submitted ahead of deadlines. Managing the lifecycle of all grants.

7.    Work with Beck Center colleagues to compile data, Beck Center stories, and metrics demonstrating the impact of our many programs.

8.    Collaborate with all appropriate colleagues to develop accurate project budgets for grant proposals.

9.    Ensure all submitted grants comply with funder-specific guidelines and reporting requirements. 

10.  Work with the fundraising Institutional Advancement Associate (IAA) to review data entered in the CRM for prospect tracking purposes including moves management, preparing attainment and revenue reports for board and committee meetings, provide donor research, and suggest donor engagement strategies for foundations and individuals.

11.  Work with the fundraising IAA to review reports created for use by the Director of Finance, Institutional Advancement Committee, President & CEO, and others.

12.  Collect data and documentation needed for the financial audit throughout the fiscal year in tandem with the fundraising IA Associate.

13.  Work with the fundraising Institutional Advancement Associate (IAA) to assist in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the donor database for effective and efficient data collection and analysis.

14.  Steward relationships with foundation and business partners. This includes attending meetings, seminars, and events with community organizations, foundations, businesses and others, such as Assembly for the Arts, Cuyahoga Arts and Culture (CAC), and more. These may occur outside of traditional business hours.

15.  Assist with special events staffing and preparation as needed throughout the year.

16.  All other duties as assigned.

 WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

General office environment; must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Must be able to work select evening and/or weekend hours, as needed for special events, meetings, and seminars.

 REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

 Experience:

  • At least three to five years experience in foundation and government fundraising or equivalate proficiency.

  • Exceptional knowledge of communication strategies, concepts, and practices.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of writing clearly and informatively with a high level of sophistication and can vary writing styles to meet needs.

  • Outstanding organizational skills and high level of attention to detail and accuracy

  • Exceptional persuasive writing and storytelling skills to translate artistic programming into compelling narratives.

 Specific Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills

  • High level of computer literacy, including experience using online databases and other sources to locate financial and philanthropic information

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues, volunteers, and board members

  • High-level interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy

  • Affinity for arts and education

  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with several tight deadlines

  • Ability to work independently in an organized and results-oriented manner

  • Salary range: $42,000 - $48,000.
