Local artist Mickey Mencin offers an exhibition of color-filled botanical prints and paintings, all created in her studio in Lakewood’s Screw Factory. Mickey is a self-taught, “old-school” printmaker, creating bold prints and home goods in a modern Arts and Crafts style. Influenced by the natural world, her work bridges the gap between traditional printmaking and graphic design. Mickey's process begins by taking photographs from nature and translating them into graphic compositions that expose the contrast between light and dark. Each image is meticulously hand-carved on linoleum blocks and hand-printed using a baren or Woodzilla press. Vibrant colorways are achieved by hand-painting the prints, making each one a unique edition. For more information see www.micmencin.com. Celebrate at a free artist reception on Friday, October 2 from 6pm-7pm in the Music Studio Gallery in the Music and Creative Arts Therapies Building. Thank you to The Harry K. and Emma R. Fox Charitable Foundation for their generous support.
