Public apology to Two Trains Running

Mar 28, 2026

A public apology to cast and crew of Two Trains Running:

Yesterday, Beck Center for the Arts became aware of a troubling encounter between a member of the cast of August  Wilson’s Two Trains Running and a part-time employee. The employee used a slur that is absolutely intolerable. In response, the Beck Center leadership took swift and appropriate action. That person is no longer employed at Beck Center.

We sincerely apologize to the cast member involved, and to the entire cast, crew, director, stage managers, designers, and all the talented professionals associated with this production. We are grateful to all of you for speaking candidly with us and bravely sharing some of the issues you have faced here. We thank you for bringing this to light so we can address and fix these things.

That these things occurred – and that we allowed them to happen – is heartbreaking, because they do not reflect the mission of this organization. We take full responsibility for what occurred. We know we must do better, on many fronts, and we will.

Beck Center is committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment where everyone – regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, mental or physical ability – feels safe and welcome to explore the arts and express their creativity. We assure you that we will redouble our efforts to make sure all members of our staff do their part to carry out this mission, and will make additional resources available as needed.  It is imperative for our mission and our work in this community that we address these concerns. Again, we deeply apologize and thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.
